Dhal and rice


For Dhal

  • 2 cups of split peas
  • 1/2 white onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 3/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 large hot pepper
  • 7 cups water 
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For Rice

    • 4 cups rice
    • water


    1. Add split peas to a bowl and fill with enough water to cover peas.
    2. Leave for a few hours
    3. Mash 2 garlic cloves
    4. Once peas are soaked, put water to boil in a deep pan until high boil and add peas to boiling water
    5. When peas are tender and add salt and pepper to taste.
    6. Heat oil in a separate  pan on a medium heat.
    7. Add sliced garlic, onion to pan and add peas to the pan and cook.
    8. Enjoy with warm rice!
